Salvaging Treasure at the Side of the Road

Salvaging Treasure at the Side of the Road

Items left at the side of the road for garbage pickup look like treasure to me. I frequently stop to investigate (much to the amusement of passers-by).

I can often be seen, top down on my tiny fiat convertible, trying to lift heavy items up, over, and into the back seat.

When I successfully manage the task you'll then notice me driving through the streets of Toronto or Uxbridge with large objects protruding out of the top of my car (chairs, tables, trees, sculptures and paintings included). Sadly however, I'm sometimes forced to concede defeat and call for backup…Michael and his FJ.

So it was by great fortune that we spotted our most recent roadside treasure while commuting to Toronto (in Michael's vehicle) early last week. A rusty old printer's/drafter's filing cabinet...bigger than the ones we have already worked with...just waiting at the side of the road to be loved! That would not have fit in my fiat!

We had to evict a critter or two who were using it as a high-rise condo but it's a solid metal cabinet and we are excited to begin the restoration and redesign.

Salvage, Restore, Repurpose, and Craft!  Breathing new life into roadside finds produces furniture and art with soul.

Stay tuned for the finished product!! I see an Industrial/Rustic Table in my future!
